curly hair care tips

before we lock down the best curly or wavy hair routine, let’s go back to basics. here are five tips and tricks on how to maintain wavy hair, creating curls that are healthy, happy and defined.

1. go sulfate-free

sulfates are an ingredient commonly used in haircare – particularly shampoos – to help create the rich foamy lather that breaks down oil and dirt. but here’s the thing: sulfates can over-strip the hair and cause dry curls to become even more parched.

our advice? skip the sulfates and opt for something more gentle, like springsclean deep cleanse rinse. this deep cleaning rinse removes product build-up, dirt and excess oil from hair without stripping colour, natural oils or hydration. recommended for wavy, curly and coily hair, springsclean hydrates strands to support natural curl shape and pattern.

2. don’t over-wash your locks

how often should you wash your hair? well, that depends on your hair type. if you have curly hair, leave the washing to once per week, so you can give the oils in your scalp time to reach and nourish your strands.

recommended for medium to coarse curly, coily and tight textures, heads will roll co-wash is a low-foam cleansing conditioner that gently washes and conditions in one step. use it to moisturise, remove build-up and improve curl manageability.

3. hydration is key

curly hair is naturally drier than straight hair; this is because it’s harder for the scalp’s natural oils to travel down your strands from root to tip. no matter. we have a solution: meet baby got bounce curl treatment.

this intense treatment moisturises and repairs hair to improve manageability, support curl pattern and prepare curls for easier styling. for best results, use it after springsclean or heads will roll co-wash… it’s an in-shower rinse-out treatment, not too different to a standard conditioner, only more suited to curls.

4. style with care

just jumped out of the shower? before towel-drying your hair, listen up… standard terry towels can be rough on hair and disturb your natural curl pattern. instead, switch to a microfibre towel or even an old t-shirt to gently pat your strands dry without causing unnecessary damage.

from there, give damp hair some extra oomph and definition with liquid rollers curl balm or total recoil curl definer.

5. invest in a diffuser

the styling tool that deserves a place in your cabinet? a blow-dryer diffuser attachment. this attachment helps evenly distribute the flow of air from the blow-dryer, minimising frizz and creating more defined curls.
