“this year felt exciting because i wanted the designs to bring a sense of lightness and fun, something people would want to carry with them long after christmas,” says mark.

drawn from life

behind every mark conlan design is a mix of lived experience and natural influence. “i find inspiration in many places, ideas and people,” he explains. “a constant inspiration is nature and its complexity, the shapes of flowers, the organic lines of trees, even the symmetry you see in animals. those patterns always push me to interpret them and their relationship with us humans.”

his creative process usually starts with bold blocks of colour and playful shapes before layering in characters and detail. this blend of simplicity and depth is what makes his artwork so distinctive, and why it continues to resonate in evo’s collaborations. in this year’s tote design, you will see that playfulness come to life in vibrant motifs that feel fresh and summery, yet carry a festive twist. the organic lines, bold colours and whimsical details echo his inspirations while giving the collection its own personality.

how did you go about creating the motifs that make up the evo holiday tote bag?

“the holiday bag was inspired by warm summer days, long evenings and all the memories that come with this. there are motifs throughout that are inspired by the vitality of evo products alongside some more well-known summer icons. i tried to create modern warm christmas vibes within the world of evo.”

what is your holiday guilty pleasure?

“fried eggs on top of fried plum pudding for breakfast on st stephen’s day. weird right, but don’t knock it until you have tried it.”

what’s on your gift wish list this year?

“i have nothing on my wish list so far. i now have a two-year-old, so the emphasis is around him and his love of toys. hopefully he gets lots of lego, so i can play with it too.”
